Conceptual Design Engineer (Electrical)

Job description

As a Conceptual Design Engineer within IHC Systems you will be responsible for the electrical design for our new vessels. You will do this for a variety of product groups as power generation, power conversion, power distribution and vessel automation.
In addition to designing an important part of your job is to methodically gather and analyze data of constructed vessels and use it as input for the cost estimation.
You will use project field data, design studies and trade-off studies to come to the best combination of design and estimation.

Depending on the needs, preferences and operational cycle, different energy solutions can be implemented to meet the stakeholders expectations. Some design requirements are complementary, others are contradictive.

For example;

" Reduced fuel consumption is contradictive to an increased vessel speed, when both are selected with the same level of importance."

The compromise here could be a customized design for reduced fuel consumption with the possibility of increased vessel speed for a shortened period. All these decisions, requirements and upcoming technologies are part of the world of the Conceptual Design Engineer and together these pieces form part of the entire complex 3D puzzle, which we call a vessel.

You are motivated to continuously improve your electrical knowledge, and embrace the knowledge from other disciplines while maintaining a focus on stakeholder requirements.
You support your colleagues and continuously strive for new insights. In addition, you should have the following:

  • An academic higher education (WO)
  • Analytical and creative skills
  • The ability to develop a strategy and share your vision with the customer and tender team
  • Commercial & technical interests
  • Good working knowledge of English and preferably Dutch
  • Knowledge of cost estimation or the willingness to gain this competence
  • Willingness to travel between Sliedrecht, Krimpen and Kinderdijk on a regular basis, and to visit customers or attend meetings abroad for a short period.

Please note, an online assessment and screening can be part of the recruitment process. Only applicants with a valid EU work visa will be considered as viable candidates.

Terms of employment
You will become involved from the start of the most early design stage, working towards the prefered design and then actually helping deliver the ‘wow’ factor to our customers. Being a Conceptual Design Engineer is a rewarding challenge in an interesting business unit within a team of specialists. There will always be new, exciting challenges and the autonomy to make changes. It is a permanent position, with international contacts, career opportunities and a training programme to help you gain the required skills. In addition, we offer a competitive salary, professional development opportunities, travel allowance, profit share, pension allowance, training courses and at least 40 days of leave per year.
